Quarter 1 Project
We all love to eat, whether it's healthy or not but food is very important for our brain to be able to function properly 24/7. Of course, it all depends on the food you eat. People have many reason to why they eat the foods they eat. For example, many people eat the foods they eat because of personal taste, family preferences, culture influences, and both emotional and health concerns. The cognitive perspective of phycology plays a role in the food industry. The foods you eat can affect your mental health which can have a change in your behavior. Food is what gives you energy and gives you what you need to be able active throughout your day.
Data Analysis #1
The NCBI ( National Center for Biotechnology Information) conducted a survey in which they interviewed 6 participants, 3 overweighed people and 3 healthy people.. Each participant were asked what their thoughts were about food, how they're emotionally attachment to food, and how it's related to Jekyll and Hyde.
Data outcome:
Anna: Age 33,Overweight, Louis: Age 31, Overweight
- Is obsessed with food & can't resist it - Is obsessed with food
- Eats whatever she sees, - Feels guilty after and realizes the problem, ( trying to change)
eats to comfort herself (trying to lose weight)
Stephanie: Age 34, Healthy Jane: Age 22, Healthy
- She sets calorie goals in her diet and thinks about her body - She controls herself and her gluten intolerance motivates her
- Tries to keep herself busy, ( Is careful on what she eats) - She says food is fuel, eats to not feel scared anymore
Tom: Age 35, Overweight Charlie: Age 39, Healthy
- Tries to eat less and going to gym - He compares us people with vehicles (that food is our gasoline)
- Tom mentions that food can make people feel a strong connection between each other, ( tries to change)
Analysis:
This survey corelates towards cognitive perspective because the foods these people eat get into their thoughts and feelings which affects their behavior. For example, all 3 unhealthy participants realize the problem they're in and try to take action to change for the better. Eating unhealthy foods gave some of the participants some intrusive thoughts which caused them to either go to the gym or try to look for alternative foods for their diet. Even for the healthy participants, they think about what could happen if they don't follow their healthy diet so they are more careful on what they eat on a daily basis. What we could see based off of this survey is that each participants have different reasons to why they eat the foods they eat, no matter what they eat, they actually try to take action by doing things that help benefit them instead of sitting there and let the intrusive thoughts get into their heads which can affect their mental health.
Data Analysis #2:
I conducted an experiment where I went 2 weeks with different diets. Week 1 eating healthy with lots of protein and other things that would benefit me in a positive way. After, In Week 2, I ate foods that didn't have too much healthy things, I didn't eat as much protein as I should consume.
Data Outcome:
Week 1: Week 2:
Sunday- Salmon with Vegetables Sunday: Rice with egg
Monday: Chicken with Rice Monday: A Torta with fries
Tuesday: Chicken with Veggies and Fruit Tuesday: A Chic Fil A chicken sandwich
Wednesday: Shrimp Cocktail Wednesday: Tacos de Al Pastor
Thursday: Shrimp Cocktail Thursday: Torta with fries
Friday: Salmon with Vegetables Friday: Burger from Shake Shack
Saturday: Rice with egg Saturday: Tacos de Carne Asada
Analysis:
For week 1, each day I drank some sort of a protein drink meanwhile in week 2, I drank whatever I wanted. For week 1, I felt energized everyday and felt very good. Each meal that I had each day had many things that benefitted me such as vitamins, protein, fibers, minerals and etc.;. Each day in class, I would get my work done and I would focus better and not one second, felt tired or sleepy. Meanwhile for week 2, I didn't eat enough protein and didn't eat healthy foods at all. I felt my energy go down throughout the week and felt tired each day at school. Each day, I would be tired in every class at school, I wasn't in a good mood and felt tired every time I would clock in at work. This connects towards the cognitive perspective because each meal gave me a different feeling and thought that would affect my behavior throughout the day, for example, In week 1, the healthier foods made me feel energetic in which led to me focusing better in school while the unhealthy foods made me feel tired which made me not pay attention in class at all.
Final Project Analysis:
Overall, we can see how important food is, not only for our brain but also for us as a person. The cognition perspective is really important for us people and we can use foods to help us improve ourselves. Based of these experiments, we can say that we can use this a superpower by being more aware of what we consume into our bodies and making more healthier decisions to help us be more active throughout the day
